The new Skoda Kodiaq hybrid is good for 75 miles of pure electric driving
The heifer of an SUV has a PHEV that will see off fuel station visits for months
Skoda has given the angry-looking second-gen Skoda Kodiaq the iV treatment – that’s Czech for plug-in hybridisation (PHEV). It gets an impressive 75 miles of pure electric driving.
That figure’s for the five-seater SE version. Though Skoda doesn’t say what the range is for the seven-seater Kodiaq iV, in doubling the size of the battery to 25.7kWh, it’ll likely still redefine your relationship with fuel stations.
The second-gen hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-litre four-pot turbo engine producing 147bhp, and a 114bhp electric motor nestled inside the DSG gearbox.
There are three driving modes: e-mode, hybrid and sport, and the entire setup is good for peak totals of 201bhp and 258lb ft.
It’s capable of rapid charging up to 50kW via a CCS cable, so Skoda reckons it’ll get 10-80 per cent juice within half an hour. The battery’s also got fancier integral cooling to – Skoda tells us – maximise thermal management for the cabin and make the most of the regen.
There's a choice of two trim levels - SE and SE L. The former gets 18in alloys and LED headlights, while inside there’s the 13in satnav touchscreen, 10,25in driver display, climate control, heated front seats and keyless entry. Skoda’s been pretty generous with safety kit too – blind spot detection and cross traffic assist included in the ADAS package. Yours for £41,935.
The higher SE L trim – priced from £44,635 – gets bigger wheels, matrix headlights with cornering function and daytime running lights. In addition to the ecoSuite design with plenty of fake and real cow in the cabin, there’s also electric seats, an electric tailgate and start/stop tech.
It's all on sale as we speak. Any takers?
