Chery’s Fulwin T10 has set a world record for the longest range by a hybrid SUV

Chery Group has recently birthed Omoda-Jaecoo models in the UK and they’re getting the same PHEV tech

Published: 09 Sep 2024

Chery’s Fulwin T10 has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest range travelled by a plug-in hybrid SUV. It achieved a cracking 1,304 miles on a single tank of fuel and a full battery without stopping to recharge. Presumably, 'comfort' stops were allowed, otherwise... yeesh.

In July, the T10 travelled for three days from Shangri-La City in the Chinese province of Yunnan, before hitting empty at Zhuhai in Guangdong, China.

What enabled such long-distance heroics? The record-setting T10 features a 1.5-litre four-pot turbo engine, capable of 151bhp and generating 162lb ft torque, coupled with Chery's Super Hybrid C-DM plug-in hybrid system.

That system is powered by a 34.5kWh battery – supplied by CATL – giving around 130 miles of pure electric range, and comes in two guises: a less powerful 369bhp front-wheel-drive version and a four-wheel-drive version, producing 601bhp and making 723lb ft torque.

It's that front-wheel-drive variant of the Fulwin that beat the previous record holder by a more-than-respectable 186 miles. By bagging the new world record in the Fulwin, Chery is showcasing its engineering prowess and metaphorically shining its nails on its lapel and smiling directly at the UK. Not least because Chery is parent to two brands you'll have barely heard of.

Recently the Jaecoo J7 and Omoda 5 landed on Blighty’s shores. We're told both will feature this PHEV technology in the future – the J7 as soon as early 2025. Plus, there are murmurings that Chery is considering setting up a production facility in the UK, too. Nothing's confirmed but more as we get it.
