The Porsche 911 Carrera is speedier and grippier than ever before. Of course it is, that’s how progress is measured. The facelift cleans up the 992’s looks neatly, the twin-turbo flat-six has an energy and charisma few can match and the 911 is now even better balanced and neater in its handling.

The Alpine A110 does things differently. Whether that makes it better or worse than a Porsche Cayman depends on your priorities and perspective. But fundamentally it’s a terrific car, a genuine exponent of light weight that makes you question the claims of almost every firm that says they build light cars. Even Lotus.
Toyota GR86
There really aren’t many cars out there like the GR86 for the money. Yes, there are sweeter, nicer-sounding, more powerful engines out there, and there are cars that are faster with nicer interiors, but nothing quite like the generous balance that the Toyota offers. It’s genuinely lovely, and obviously made by people who like what we like.

BMW M2
