Mercedes Benz G-Class
No, the G-Wagen will never be a paragon of efficiency or parsimony, but it’s still an amazing and largely unique, if anachronistic (and hugely expensive) bit of kit. Plus, there seems to be a G for every occasion now, from the brash and exciting G63 to the fully electric G580, not to mention the sombre and useful G450d. A G for every taste.

It drives competently, the cabin is far posher than before, and there’s more room for passengers and payloads alike. Sure, pickups are generally seen as a work tool rather than a family wagon, but spend some time in the new Ranger and it doesn’t take long to convince you it could easily do both.
Ineos Grenadier
The important thing to remember is that this isn’t for everyone. It’s not a conventional or convenient family SUV. But it does get people talking and it has reminded them that proper burly 4x4s have a role. OK, that role maybe more of a leisure one than a proper workhorse these days, but that doesn’t diminish the Grenadier’s capabilities.
