Seat launches Ibiza Cupra concept

Published: 20 Apr 2012

Cuh! It's only been a few days since the Seat Ibiza went on sale in Blighty and we've already got its Cupra-shaped big brother approaching...

The imaginatively titled Seat Ibiza Cupra concept - which we've been promised will reach production - is on the brink of making its debut at the Beijing motor show, and it looks like a relatively compelling prospect.

There's the venerable 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged direct injection pushing 177 bhp and 184lb ft through the front wheels. There's also a clever seven-speed DSG ‘box complete with now-mandatory flappy paddle shifters as well as an XDS electronic diff lock and set of uprated brakes. And that, dear voyeur, is all we know about the oily stuff.

Outside there's a set of LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights and bi-xenon headlamps. You also get 17-inch wheels, gloss black mirrors and slightly beefed-up styling about the bumpers. Inside, it's all a bit Drive-Thru demographic though. There's a big loud stereo and the racey seats have yellow on (in this instance - it's colour matched to the outside).

You can spec Seat's Portable System, which is a removable five-inch screen integrated into the vehicle's electronics. It's a sat nav, hands-free phone system with voice control and an on-board computer.
