New Mercedes-AMG A45 or used S63 Coupe?

The new Mercedes-AMG A45 S has a faintly ridiculous 415bhp and 369lb ft of torque. In a hatchback! Crikey.

Of course, you likely already knew that because, if you’re like us, you’ll have been all over the facts and figures of the most powerful hot hatch in production as it was announced. We’ve since driven it, and it’s truly bombastic. You can read our full review by clicking these words here.

However, there was one figure that Mercedes hadn’t confirmed – the price. There’s no easy way to say this – it’ll start at £50,570 for the basic hatch. That’s a lot. As is the £59,570 for the full-fat CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ Plus Shooting Brake.

This got us thinking – if you’re prepared to delve into the classifieds, just how much AMG can you get for 50 grand?

Turns out it’s quite a lot. In fact, among a bunch of nearly new E63s we found a wonderful S63 AMG Coupe, complete with its 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8, for sale at just £54,995. That’s depreciation for you.

The car you see above is the actual one that Noor Autos currently have for sale. It’s a 2015 example, wearing just 33,000 miles, for roughly the same price as a ’19 plate A45 S.

So, if you’ve got that kind of cash burning a hole in your pocket, where would your money go?
