Hot Hatch

Good news! It's the Dacia Sandero hot hatch! Um, sort of

Designed by RenaultSport, exclusively for Latin America, it's Renault 143bhp 'sports hatch'

Published: 22 Jun 2015

Yes, it's true. At this year's Buenos Aires Motor Show, Renault has revealed the sportier, faster Sandero we first heard about last month. Meet the new Renault Sandero RS 2.0.

"It is a real hot hatch," explains Renault, though ‘real' here might be a stretch. As the name suggests, power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, here producing 143bhp, and thus, won't be troubling the likes of the new Civic Type R or Focus RS.

Still, the Sandero's low weight - clocking in at little over a tonne - means it's not all gloom, and anyway, we're too excited to care. The RS also gets a six-speed manual gearbox, ESC with ‘sports tuning', and upgraded suspension, steering and brakes (discs all round). You will also notice the new clothes, alloys and even a dual exhaust at the back.

"The new Renault Sandero RS 2.0 combines the fundamental components of pleasure and passion as seen by Renault Sport," explains Renault's Olivier Murguet. "It delivers an exciting driving experience and sporty ambience."

Now comes the bad bit, if you live in the UK at least. Renault has confirmed that we won't get the Sandero RS 2.0, because it's been designed and built by Renault Sport specifically for Latin America, with a launch scheduled for early 2016.

Sad face.
