Check out the race-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 N ‘eN1’ Cup car

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a pretty hot car as is, with its 641bhp powertrain and 3.3-second sprint to 62mph. But what if you sent it on a diet and bolted on a few aero-enhancing splitters and spoilers? Well, you’re likely to end up with something like the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car, which is built to compete in the N1 racing class.

Hyundai’s engineers began by shedding 265kg from the base car, so it tips the scales at under two tonnes and now weighs closer to most local parishes than it does St Paul’s Cathedral. They then added super sticky 18in tyres at each corner, two-way adjustable dampers and that body kit.

To add even more character to said body kit, Hyundai complemented it with wider arches, more air inlets and a cleaner look bonnet, with the whole car squatting much lower to the ground than the standard version. 

As an extra treat, Hyundai has even developed its artificial sound generator further, so owners can now modify their eN1 (not to be confused with the Honda e:Ny1, we hasten to add) to produce a more tailored, and presumably more racy sound. Wonder if it can play Never Gonna Give You Up so you can Rick Roll the opposition?

The interior has also seen a substantial overhaul, with new racing bucket seats and a roll cage thrown in, while a much more focused steering wheel can be seen. You still get a digital driver display, though, to keep track of your lateral Gs and alert you when Rick Astley will need a replay.

Alongside showcasing Hyundai’s ‘commitment’ to sustainable racing, the brand’s N division boss, Till Wartenberg, also said: “This unique electric racing car demonstrates our cutting-edge technology and passion for pushing the boundaries of what EVs can achieve on the racetrack.”
