Seat IBX concept news - Geneva 2011: Seat IBX concept - 2011

Published: 01 Mar 2011

Seat has been more than fashionably late to the crossover party. It showed a concept called Tribu in 2007, but that didn't make it. Now at the Geneva show there's the IBX. And even this is a pretty iffy bet for production.

So why devote a second's more of your attention to it? Well, imagine it not as a crossover at all but as a vanilla hatchback, sitting lower to the road with regular-size wheels. Then you've got something that points the way to the next Leon, due in 2012.

One of three Leons actually. There'll be a three-door much like this concept, and a five-door with a slightly higher roof, and an estate that's apparently quite swoopy.

You've got to enjoy the simpler things in life before the design appeals. Ex-Lambo man Luc Donckerwolke has stripped away all the ornaments, and left only a very few creases to do the work.

To our way of seeing, it works well. But unless you're actually looking at it in the metal, the white paint obscures those few vital lines and turns it into a bit of a blob.
