This is the Fiat 500L
These are the first images of the new Fiat 500L, set to make its debut at next month's Geneva motor show.
The ‘L' stands for ‘Large', and that's because the new 500L is actually quite large. At 414cm long, 178cm wide and 166cm high, it comfortably eclipses Top Gear's beloved Fiat Panda in size, as well as the the Punto Evo. Think of it as a mutant 500.
Fiat tells us the 500L offers MPV passenger space with the feel of a small SUV, and builds on the ‘cab forward' concept first seen on the Multipla. *Shudders
It'll launch in Europe near the end of 2012 with that fabulous TwinAir engine, the 1.4-litre petrol, and a 1.3-litre Multijet II diesel. And if you're interested in this sort of thing, the 500L will be built at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac, in Serbia.
We'll bring you more info as we selflessly scour the Geneva floor for crisps and tea when it opens at the beginning of March, but for now, why not regale us with your thoughts on this mutated Fiat 500. A natural growth for the everlasting Italian icon, or a mini MPV the world could do without?
