Good lord. Whatever you think of Lotus’ switch to electric power - or its Evija hypercar’s 1,680kg target kerb weight - you’ve got to admit that that rear end is a stunning piece of car design. To use one of the oldest metaphors in the Motoring Journalism for Dummies book, it’s a proper piece of theatre.

Click through the images above for more. Given the £1.5m-£2m plus taxes price tag, you may not see many of the planned 130 Evijas out in the wild, after all. These were taken in the United Arab Emirates as the new-age Lotus continued its world tour, having already visited London, the US and Japan. 

There was also an update on the Evija’s development from Lotus CEO Phil Popham, who claimed that prototype vehicles were now undergoing ‘real-world testing’. This is good news.

The target is still to produce the world’s most powerful production car, with 2,000PS (1,972bhp) and 1,253lb ft of torque being delivered to all four wheels.
