Would you splash almost £10k on this carbon fibre Cosworth sim racing wheel?

Cosworth partners with SimRep Engineering to create a sim wheel that replicates the ones it puts in real-life racing cars

Published: 21 Oct 2024

Earlier this year we brought you news of the [deep breath] Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Sim Racing Steering Wheel. That was a replica W15 wheel with a big name and an even bigger price tag thanks to a collaboration between Merc’s F1 team and Sim-Lab.

Well, we thought the price tag was large. You see, the Mercedes wheel cost £2,294. This new Cosworth CCW Mk2 Pro Sim steering wheel will set you back just under £8,000 if you spec it with just two paddles for up and downshifting. If you want the full six paddle setup with shifters, dual clutches and two extra customisable paddles then you’re looking at almost £10,000.

The wheel itself is an exact replica of the FIA-certified Cosworth CCW Mk2 wheel that’s used by a number of teams competing in LMP2, IndyCar and Super Formula. That means you get the real-life wheel’s carbon fibre housing and all of its standard buttons and rotary controls. There’s also proper shift lights up top, Cosworth branding and a 4.3in TFT LCD display.

The wheel comes with a two-year warranty and features “high-tech and next-generation simulator electronics” thanks to Dutch firm SimRep’s SimHub software suite.

Cosworth launched the wheel at the ADAC Sim Racing Expo in Dortmund, Germany, presumably in a quick break between building engines for the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Gordon Murray T.50 and the Bugatti Tourbillon. We’d imagine it’s a fairly expensive process to develop a new V16 engine, and if people are willing to drop almost £10k on a sim racing wheel to fund that then they have our full support.

“We make some of the world’s best FIA-certified motorsport steering wheels and to bring our know-how, expertise and tech into the sim racing world makes absolute sense,” said Stef Balkowiec, MD of Cosworth Electronics.

“To use a state-of-the-art real-world racing steering wheel on a simulator is simply the ultimate solution for an uncompromised high-quality sim racing experience whether you’re an avid sim racer or a racing driver using it as an off-track training aid.

“Cosworth is committed to strengthening its position with more motorsport-to-sim racing products planned to launch in the future.”
