Starfield’s Shattered Space story expansion is coming this autumn
There’s some “great ship-building stuff” coming soon too, says Bethesda’s Todd Howard
Aeons ago now – June 2023 to be exact – Starfield developer Bethesda Game Studios mentioned a juicy story expansion it had planned for its open-world spacefaring game. Things went quiet after that for a long while, but thanks to a recent chat between studio boss Todd Howard and Kinda Funny, we know it’s scheduled to arrive this autumn.
Shattered Space is billed as a substantial new content drop that will include “new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more” according to a Bethesda blog post from December. And now we have a release window: “Shattered Space is in the fall,” Howard told Kinda Funny.
Judging by its title it sounds like all interplanetary conflicts have been resolved and everything’s totally fine. We’ll probably just be bombing around in search of the best oat milk latte in the galaxy.
There are more improvements incoming in the nearer future, too. “We have a big update that’s coming really soon,” says Howard. “We’ve got some great stuff for ship-building.” Tuners rejoice - more parts to throw haphazardly onto your vessel.
Howard also mentions that “we re-did the city map stuff”, probably referencing the obtuse current map system that neglects to show you roads in cities, and other such minor details that were apparently deemed extraneous.
Players have spent 26,027,845 hours building ships since Starfield released in September 2023, and eaten a combined 18 million Battlemeal multipacks. Clearly ticking off quests for space-cowboys builds an appetite.
