GTA 6 is on track for an autumn 2025 release, Rockstar confirms
“It's about creating an experience that no one has seen before,” says Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick
Despite speculation that GTA 6 might slip beyond that 2025 release window it states in the announcement trailer, the CEO of its parent company Take Two has confirmed that the blockbuster crim sim is bang on schedule for autumn 2025.
In an interview with CNBC, Strauss Zelnick explained how a release date is typically estimated: “There are elements that you can measure. For example, the number of bugs.
“However, in the case of an extraordinary title, for which there are extraordinary expectations, it’s not really about bugs. It’s about creating an experience that no one has seen before.”
You’d expect a bit of hyperbole from a game publisher, but when the game in question happens to be the latest in one of the best-selling franchises of all time, those words carry a bit more weight.
“Rockstar Games seeks perfection in what they do”, Zelnick continues. “Perfection is indeed hard to measure, it really is more subjective than objective.”
If that sounds frustratingly vague, don’t worry - he also offered more concrete information on timings.
“There is slippage in the industry, and we’re not immune [to] that. However, we narrowed the timing because we are highly confident of that timing.”
Zelnick’s comments follow a statement about GTA 6’s release window in a financial report to investors: "Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games' previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI. We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase."
Decline every Halloween party invite and scrap the bonfire night plans, then. We’ll be running amok in Vice City before the stuffing and cranberry sandwiches start popping up in supermarket meal deals.
