Gaming: Grosjean and Norris will race Circuit Superstars’ Top Gear test track

Welcome one and all, to the inaugural BBC Top Gear x Circuit Superstars Star in a Reasonably Fast Car Invitational 2021. A catchier-titled racing series you will struggle to find.

Top Gear has teamed up with Square Enix and Original Fire Games for Circuit Superstars, in which luminaries of Formula One, Formula E and YouTube will all race the game’s version of TG’s humble test track in an attempt to set the fastest lap time.

Former Formula One driver Romain Grosjean and current McLaren F1 hotshoe (and e-sports team owner) Lando Norris will be among the first participants to take on gaming’s most gruelling and rewarding challenge – a unique version of the Star in a Reasonably Fast Car.

“Like every racing fan, I have always wanted to drive the Top Gear test track, and Circuit Superstars is making that a reality,” explains Grosjean. “The competition will be tough, with top drivers from a variety of championships and with just one chance to set the perfect hot lap, it will be exciting to see who comes out on top.”

Providing commentary will be BBC Radio 5 Live’s Jack Nicholls. “Make no mistake, the game looks cute, but with a very short circuit and top-down view, our competitors will find it fiendishly difficult to hook up the perfect lap,” he said.

The first in a series of new videos kicks off on Thursday 9 September, and the Top Gear test track will be included in Circuit Superstars when the game fully launches later this year. Plus, there’ll be more Top Gear-themed content in the game to come…

Circuit Superstars is currently available on Steam Early Access, and will be available for PC, Xbox, PlayStation.
