The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI has landed and we’re back in Vice City
Finally! It’s your first look at GTA VI… but we’ll have to wait until 2025 for the final game
Ladies and gentlemen, start preparing those work and family excuses now because the biggest thing in gaming – heck, entertainment full stop – is coming. Here is your very first official look at the reason you will have no friends in 2025: it’s Grand Theft Auto VI!
And we’re right back in Vice City, Rockstar Game’s pastiche of Miami. There are cars. There are dirt bikes. There are police chases and crocodiles and parties and a pair of protagonists seemingly modelled after Bonnie and Clyde.
Of which the main star looks to be a character called Lucia, who – after we first see her in an orange penitentiary jumpsuit – looks to be attempting to escape… something. This being Rockstar Games, that ‘something’ will involve many, many hours of missions and an intricately woven plot that’ll lead to some kind of redemption.
Well, we guess, anyway. What we don’t have to guess are the achingly cool cars on display, ranging from 911-lookalikes through Ferraris, Lambos, muscle cars and even a Zagato for which TopGear.com doffs its cap. A backwards, Miami-style cap, of course.
And it’ll likely cap off perhaps the biggest entertainment product the world has ever seen. Upon its launch ten years ago in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V made $800 million on its first day and grossed over a billion dollars in its first three days. It broke all records and became the fastest selling entertainment product in history. This one’s got mighty big drift marks to follow.
Indeed last year, the boss of GTA’s publisher, Take Two Interactive, said “the Rockstar Games team is determined once again to set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment”.
Steady those goosebumps, mind – the very end of the trailer notes that it’ll arrive in 2025, which gives you a full year to clear all your schedules and get your affairs in order. Because as the trailer music quite rightly says, love is a long road...
