Finally, someone made a game that plays like Vanishing Point
Narrative-driven road trip adventure Heading Out will be available from 7 May
Who hasn’t wanted to star in their own personal road trip flick? Thelma and Louise made it look like a laugh- actually hang on, maybe it’s time we rewatched that one and paid closer attention. We digress. Narrative-led driving games are a rare treat, and the hyper-stylish Heading Out is just such a thing.
Developed by Serious Sim and published by Saber Interactive, outlaw spirits will be pleased to hear it’s arriving on Steam on 7 May.
The release date announcement trailer conjures up a lot of Vanishing Point-like imagery, all coated in a monochromatic graphic novel style art direction.
It’s a world of lawless roads and vintage American muscle cars whose fuel consumption would have Al Gore crying into his hands, featuring rogue-like elements and a simple premise: drive the length of the United States.
As you make the journey you’re juggling resource management and risking getting into dangerous chases, stopping for a chinwag with various dusty locals along the way.
We especially like the comic book panel showing your foot flooring the accelerator pedal within the UI - nice touch, Serious Sim.
It’s available to wishlist over on Steam, where you can also find more info on the project.
