A legend returns: Gran Turismo 7 reintroduces the Toyota GT-One racer

Remember the final S-License test in Gran Turismo (GT) 3, where you had to put in a near-perfect lap around Côte d'Azur (Monaco) in a Le Mans prototype? Or how about competing in the Like the Wind event, where that very same prototype would always be the lead car to chase, and often frustrated you to the point where a controller was thrown?

We are, of course, talking about the Toyota GT-One (otherwise known as the TS020). In the real world, it even stormed to a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999. Though, we mustn’t boast too loudly about that achievement, since it was the only car in its class to finish…

Still, its association with the game is legendary, having debuted in the series’ second instalment and featuring in all but GT Sport. And now, GT7’s March update has brought the GT-One back, with it available for purchase in the ‘Legend Cars’ dealership for a modest 2.5 million credits. Talk about tugging at our heartstrings, Polyphony.

A few weekends’ worth of repeatedly winning the Sunday Cup should grant you the finances required, and once it has been obtained, you can use it to compete in a multitude of GR.1 class races where it’ll likely be given a pasting by modern prototypes like the Porsche 919 Hybrid. But will you really care when the nostalgia runs as deep as it does with the GT-One?
