Jaguar Land Rover is working on a SHAPESHIFTING seat

Burn your gym membership. Tell the dog to walk itself. Jaguar Land Rover is currently researching a new kind of SHAPESHIFTING car seat that simulates the "rhythm of walking" to mitigate the perils of sitting down for a really long time and driving. Daily exercise, consider yourself completed.

Yes folks, it’s the Terminator T-1000 of car seats. JLR says its “morphable” seat deploys actuators in the foam that make constant micro-adjustments. Said adjustments feed nice happy things into your brain to make said brain think you’re walking, which in turn can help against weakened leg, hip and gluteal muscles.

JLR’s researchers reckon each individual car seat could be individually tailored to drivers and passengers and nope, we’re not going to flat out say what we’re all pretty much thinking. This is a PG website.

“The wellbeing of our customers and employees is at the heart of all our technological research projects,” explains JLR’s chief medical officer Dr Steve Iley. Depending on the setting of aforementioned actuators, one suspects wellbeing will be very much- nope, we’re not going there.

JLR hasn’t mentioned when it expects these T-1000 seats to be deployed across its vast empire, so maybe don’t actually bin the gym membership just yet...
