Jaguar Land Rover is expanding its self-driving operations

Europe’s getting more tech hubs

Published: 21 Feb 2023

Jaguar Land Rover is really putting its weight behind this self-driving thing. With six hubs already spread across the globe, it's set to open another three new European locations.

It’s all pally-pally with Nvidia these days, after announcing a multi-year partnership in February 2022 with the chipset manufacturer and AI expert.

The two brands will collaborate to develop autonomous vehicle technologies for the next generation of JLR’s luxury vehicles. Specifically, JLR wants to harness Nvidia’s know-how when it comes to parking cars and getting motors to drive themselves under certain conditions.

These new hubs are going to be located in Bologna, Madrid and Munich - picked because JLR reckons they have a better choice of digital engineering specialists locally available.

There’s been some 100 jobs focusing on ‘developing driver assistance systems and artificial intelligence for self-driving cars of the future’ created across the three locations.

All of it is in aid of trying to play catch-up with Elon and deploy the software in production vehicles from 2025. Tesla, Inc. - considered the forerunner of the computer-driven car competition in some circles - has long-established car brands fighting to get clued up on how they get cars to understand the world around them and make decisions as effectively as a human without injuring anyone.
