This is AMG testing its new all-electric platform in the snow
Upcoming ‘AMG Electric Architecture’ will underpin a dedicated performance EV
Very serious work is going on in these photos, honest. At least, that’s what Mercedes tells us anyway.
So while this may look like a camouflaged car being skidded about with merry abandon on a frozen lake, it’s actually Mercedes-AMG testing its first dedicated electric vehicle platform near the Arctric Circle in Sweden.
Of course, it is testing said platform by skidding it about with merry abandon on a big frozen lake, but that’s because this AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture) will have to underpin some proper performance cars. Merc says the current camo “provides few hints to future design” and it won’t really give us any details on what’s under the skin either, but we do know that the AMG.EA will deploy axial-flux motor technology and a new high-performance battery.
We’re promised “a technological trailblazer which will pioneer a number of new innovations”, but don’t expect a proper production car to arrive on top of the platform any time soon – AMG says it is “at the beginning of a demanding and comprehensive test plan”.
Like we said, very serious... fun.
