Porsche's new Cayenne Turbo does 0-62 in 3.9secs
Sports car performance and hot hatch handling (maybe). Meet the mk3 Cayenne Turbo
Porsche has used the Frankfurt Motor Show to introduce its new Cayenne. And there’s already a frighteningly fast Turbo to top the range.
With a 542bhp twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 providing the motive force, it ought to have more than enough power to please anyone. Even plane-towing enthusiasts.
You want numbers? It’ll hit a 177mph top speed via a 3.9sec 0-62mph sprint. Yikes. But there’s also much technology to ensure it’s not just a V8-propelled paperweight. To help it handle like an oversized hot hatch, essentially.
Technology such as an active roof spoiler (something Porsche debuted on the Panamera Sport Turismo), three-chamber air suspension, different sized tyres front and rear (new to this generation of Cayenne) and bigger brakes than before.
Get clicky with the configurator and you can also have rear-wheel steering and 48v anti-roll tech. Together they make the Audi SQ7 an almightily deft thing to drive, and with petrol powering this Cayenne rather than diesel, it ought to be sportier yet.
Rest assured there are cosmetic differences to make sure people know you’ve bought the powerful one, too. The Turbo gets unique 21in alloys, widened wheel arches and twin exhausts.
Lots of goodies come as standard, including a 710w Bose stereo, Porsche’s new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and suspension that adjusts through six different ride heights. Should this actually be an SUV you want to take off road…
The price? A princely £99,291 before options. Though that does make it around £18,000 cheaper than a similarly engined Panamera Sport Turismo, which will also be less practical. If perhaps cooler. Which would you have?
