Mazda's Koeru concept is a swoopy-backed SUV

OK, it's no Furai, but Mazda's latest design study looks tidy... and production-feasible

Published: 15 Sep 2015

If you remember the Furai, you'll know Mazda knows how to build a decent, if flammable, concept. This is the Japanese firm's latest (and hopefully flame-retardant) effort – the Koeru, a svelte coupe-crossover thing which sits on 21-inch wheels and boasts, says Mazda, 'determined eyes'. Right then.

More info as we have it, but for now, allow us to indulge in some mildly informed speculation. Size-wise, the Koeru sits somewhere between Mazda’s existing crossovers, the CX-3 and CX-5. Head-on, the resemblance is uncanny. It’s only when you look at it from the back or side do you notice the plunging, X6-style roofline, which we think works rather well.

Mazda boasts the Koeru offers a ‘premium level ‘of refinement inside and out, and that its “ingeniously rigid body and chassis…enhance handling as well as safety”. Ingenious indeed.

The sole interior shot reveals a fairly sensible layout, at least by concept standards, which leads us to believe the Koeru may well see production. Minus the 21s, obviously.

Stay tuned for more information...
