You can now buy a £7k scale model of Max Verstappen’s championship-winning F1 car
This 1:8 scale model is an exact replica of the car Verstappen raced in Abu Dhabi on *that* fabled day last year
Want to relive the events of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix every time you sit down at your desk? Or perhaps every time you sit down in the bathroom if you’re more of a Lewis Hamilton fan? Well, Bristol-based model builder Amalgam Collection has just the thing for you. This is a 1:8 scale model of Max Verstappen’s exact RB16B that raced that day. And it is exquisite.
Just look at the detail. Amalgam Collection used CAD data supplied directly by Red Bull to design each teeny component, with master patterns and moulds then 3D printed and the eventual model pieces cast, painted and then finished by hand. Apparently it took 2,500 hours of development to produce an exact replica of the real thing, with each model taking an extra 250 hours to put together.
Just 99 examples of Verstappen’s championship-winning number 33 car will be built, but not to worry if you miss out – there’ll be 99 versions with Sergio Pérez’s number 11 too. The price? Ah, yes. That might be a sticking point. Each model – which measures around 69cm long – will cost £7,495. Yikes.
Oh, and if you want to pay a little more than that, Amalgam Collection has also recreated the RB16B in the special Honda tribute livery from the Turkish Grand Prix. That’ll set you back £8,495.
Still, they really are lovely things, aren’t they? Just make sure you hide it when poor Michael Masi comes over for dinner. We don’t want those nightmares starting up again.
