Want to become F1 world champion? Just buy Nigel Mansell’s 1992 trophy

Our Nige is selling more memorabilia, and an actual drivers’ championship trophy is among the auction lots

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably only just coming to terms with the fact you aren’t going to win the Formula One world drivers’ championship. Never say never, of course, but given that most F1 drivers these days are lab-grown wunderkids specifically designed for modern F1 with lightning quick reactions and insane car control, we’d say it’s unlikely.

There is a glimmer of hope for us all though, because although we can’t win the championship, it turns out we might just be able to buy it. No, we’re not talking about doing a Nikita Mazepin. Instead, we’re referring to the actual 1992 FIA world Formula One drivers’ championship trophy that Nigel Mansell is auctioning off through RM Sotheby’s.

Yep, Our Nige has been selling plenty of his racing memorabilia over the past few years, but this auction lot is particularly special. Of course, it’s not the giant drivers’ championship trophy that’s handed over at the annual FIA prize giving ceremony, because that has to be handed back at the end of the year, but we’re sure you could scratch out Nigel’s name from this and engrave yours below. Nobody would ever know.

Unfortunately, even this might be out of our reach, because RM Sotheby’s has provided an estimate of between £20,000 and £30,000 for the trophy. Doh!
