Could Alfa Romeo make an F1 comeback?
Fiat Chrysler CEO says Alfa “must consider” motorsport return
You read that correctly: Alfa Romeo could be back in Formula One as a full works team in the not too distant future.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sergio Marchionne - the CEO of the Fiat Chrysler group which owns the Italian company - said Alfa should think about entering F1 again “in order to re-establish itself as a sport brand”.
Alfa Romeo won the first two world championships with Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio in 1950 and 1951, and were prominent engine suppliers throughout the sixties and seventies.

They resurrected their full operation between 1979 and 1985, although this stint was largely unsuccessful.
Marchionne believes Alfa have the capability to build their own car and their own engine, although it’s not certain that they would realistically be able to afford to do the latter.
So how does the 63-year-old expect it to work? “Probably in a collaboration with Ferrari,” he says.
Mr Marchionne, you have our attention.
