As has Imola. Two fantastic circuits will only act as reserves for next season

Published: 10 Nov 2020

Anyone not ready to receive bad news should probably look away now, because F1 bosses have announced the 2021 calendar, and there are a couple of rather distressing omissions.

You see, as strange as this season of Formula 1 has been, at least it gave us the chance to witness ludicrously quick modern F1 cars at Portimao in Portugal and Imola in Italy. We already knew how fantastic both of those circuits were, but boy did the races live up to the hype.

And so, it begs the question – why has Liberty Media left them off the 2021 calendar? Why can’t we just have nice things?

Apparently, both Portimao and Imola will act as reserves in case any of the other races fall victim to Covid-19-related cancellations. The rest of the calendar doesn’t spring up too many surprises – there are 23 race weekends in total, with no Vietnam Grand Prix.

The Brazilian Grand Prix will move back to Interlagos subject to the signing of a contract and the controversial Saudi Arabian GP in Jeddah will be the penultimate race.
