Peugeot’s Design Lab has created this savage 504 Pikes Peak challenger
Quiet, half-century-old, seven-seat estate gets the retrotastic makeover of a lifetime. And we’re all for it
We love a hair-down, drinks-flowing sort of concept, and that’s precisely what you’re looking at. This is a classic Peugeot 504 Break fed through a brutal Pikes Peak machine. And whatever the question might be, the answer's 'yes, do it now'.
Largely because it looks terrifyingly brilliant. Wide. Angry. Useless in any practical sense other than collecting modern rally car scalps via that front splitter alone. Heck, that rear wing's big enough to send Suzuki’s legendary Escudo back home with its tail between its legs.
Big vent openings are scattered across its body, while the front arches are left partially exposed to see the tyres at work. Properly menacing wheel covers too. Those ‘113’ emblems reference the French rap group of the same name, who drove a 504 Break onto the stage of the National Music Awards in 2000. Nice touch.
Peugeot has done away with the front doors; all the better to see that modified cabin clad in checkered upholstery and a colourful mix of white, blue and pink hues. There's a Hypersquare steering wheel and three pedals, which means you'll be able to mess up all your gearshifts properly.
Speaking of which, Peugeot hasn't said what powers this old-timer, only that it'll be “boosted”. Does that mean turbocharged? Or simply packing enough electrons to melt your senses? We'll find out soon.
