Official: Jaguar is building a 200mph F-Type SVR
Lighter, faster and more powerful, get ready for the fastest F-Type Jag yet
Jaguar has confirmed that it is building a top-of-the-range, 200mph F-Type ‘SVR’, to be unveiled properly at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. That’s right, a faster car than the already-quite-fast Jaguar F-Type R.
We knew this car was coming. Late last year, JLR's Special Ops boss John Edwards told TG how "we could do an SVR version of any of our cars". We also saw a spoilered-up prototype doing some track work.
So you can expect a more highly tuned version of that raucous 5.0-litre, supercharged V8 on board, producing more than the current R’s 550bhp - around 570bhp, matching the Project 7 - along with more torque, and – we suspect – a 0-60mph time that dips into the high threes.
Such acceleration will be aided by four-wheel-drive (that slightly raised bonnet gives it away). The SVR – the first series production Jaguar to be developed by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations – also promises to take “performance, dynamics and driver involvement to a new level”, while still retaining the comfort you’d expect from a Jag.
There are many diffusers, that lovely, permanent rear wing, and, um, lots of rather excellent noise. The F-Type SVR will feature a new titanium exhaust system, and the company has confirmed that a convertible SVR will be offered alongside the coupe. So that’s a 5.0-litre supercharged V8, a new exhaust, and no roof. Can you imagine?
Actually, don't imagine. Hit play in the video above to get a teaser of that noise, and we’ll have more details in the run up to Geneva. Stay tuned...
