This is the new Fiat 500L MPW

Published: 19 Jun 2013

The original Fiat 500 was a dinky little city car that brought cheap, economical transportation to the masses of Italy. This is the latest iteration of that concept: a four-metre long, seven-seat people carrier dubbed the Fiat 500L MPW. Wait, what?

Of course, seasoned TopGear.commers will instantly recall the original 500 had a plethora of editions, including a high-roofed estate version. But none had the measure of this 500L MPW's sheer size: at 435cm long and 178cm wide it actually comes in around the same size as a Mercedes B-Class (though the 500 is around 11cm taller), but just shy of a Ford Grand C-Max.

As mentioned, it's a seven-seater, though the rears are reserved for kids only, and Fiat promises a potential boot space of 638 litres. So far, so spacious, practical and family-friendly. Fiat claims it will offer the best of the small 500 and an MPV without compromising style. Not too sure about the latter, to be honest...

The 500L MPW will come with two diesel engines and two petrol engines at launch: an 85bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel, a 105bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel, a 95bhp 1.4-litre petrol and the most excellent 105bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir turbo. The MPW will have two trim levels, ‘Pop Star' and ‘Lounge,' 19 body colours, 6 interior trims, and 15 types of alloy wheels. So there are no fewer than 282 combinations to mull over while you try and find some fun in your life as a school run slave.

Equipment is no less than you would expect; leather interior, sat nav and rear parking cameras are all going to be available, though there's no word on whether they'll be standard.

Fiat reckons the MPW will attract men thanks to its ‘functionality and efficiency,' women ‘due to its beauty, intelligence and style' and, children as it will be ‘attractively spacious.' Men, women and children of TopGear.com, are you attracted to the new Fiat 500L MPW? Let us know below...
