Need more grunt? The Land Rover Discovery is getting a 345bhp mild-hybrid option
Dubbed the ‘D350’, the 3.0-litre six-cylinder is now paired with a 48-volt battery to improve performance and efficiency
Would you believe the Discovery is 35 this year? As part of the celebrations, Land Rover has announced an all-new ‘D350’ mild-hybrid version, which replaces the outgoing ‘D300’ and delivers around 345bhp to all four wheels - an increase of 49 over its predecessor.
Torque has also seen a slight bump up to 516lb ft for the 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel unit, and thanks to the introduction of the 48v battery, the Disco’s newest form should be slightly more adept at lower revs when the going gets muddy. Not that it needed any more help to begin with, of course.
As an added treat, the 0-62 run has also been cut down to 5.9s, while gains have been made on the WLTP economy test cycle to yield an estimated 34mpg between trips for fuel stops. That’s commendable, given this seven-seat leviathan tips the scales at nearly 2.5 tonnes.
No notable changes are expected to the exterior styling or interior embellishments, so expect more of the same which delivered an 8/10 verdict for the big Landy during our review.
Pricing is expected to start at around £75,000 for the entry-level mild hybrid versions, and will be offered right across the Discovery range.
