Jeep Wrangler set to bow out with quickest-ever Rubicon 392 ‘Final Edition’

It’s time to say goodbye to an icon, people, as the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is all set for retirement. It’ll take one last heavy-handed swing at its rivals with a ‘Final Edition’ before doing so, limited to 3,700 units globally and priced at around £80,000 each.

As expected, it becomes the most powerful Wrangler yet, with its 6.4-litre Hemi V8 throwing out 476bhp and nearly as many torques, which is harvested through all four wheels via an eight-speed transmission. Jeep even says around 75 per cent of the peak torque is available just above idle, which likely means you could scale Mount Everest if you so wished.

To help you do that, the Wrangler 392 comes with track axles that are wider than Everest itself, and a series of electronic differentials. You can even throw in upgraded frame rails and a model-specific suspension set-up to aid the improved brakes and high-performance shock absorbers.

It all sounds wonderfully nomadic, and the toy box doesn’t stop there. A Warn winch is provided to allow up to 3.6 tonnes of towing capacity, while a lift kit enables 11.6in of ground clearance and 34.5in of water wading. If you do end up swimming, a hydro-guide air intake also helps direct as much as 56.7 litres of water away from the engine through a series of drains.

Design-wise, the changes aren’t quite as transformative. You still get a unique bonnet and wheelarch pairing, with quad-tailpipes used as the exit point for the new dual-mode exhaust. And, yes, the valves can be opened to let the V8 sing in its loudest voice.

Similarly, the cabin remains largely untouched, aside from the Black Nappa leather upholstery, Mayan Gold accents, a bespoke gear shift medallion and a commemorative plaque.
