Jeep follows up the Wagoneer S EV with an off-roading Trailhawk concept

New impressively quick, pure electric Jeep gets some 'rugged-isation'

Published: 31 May 2024

Jeep has followed up the big reveal of the 592bhp Wagoneer S with a fully electric off-road version, and it is thus: the Wagoneer Trailhawk concept.

There's the obligatory lifted suspension and aero tweaks in the form of “functional air extractors… for [performance] under high-speed conditions". Presumably some adaptive flaps to give the chunkier (and possibly weightier) thing more stability on the motorway.

It carries the same 100.5kWh battery and 400V architecture as the production model, and in addition to the drive modes in the regular Wagoneer S – namely Auto, Sand, Snow, Eco and Sport – the off-roader has Rock mode and a driver-selectable locking differential to give more control over the, er, rocks.

Which you'll need to watch out for, not least because it also carries rather fetching anti-scratch cladding over a stylish dark green paint job, and a restyled, textured grille. There are bold orange tow hooks poking out of the chunkier front and back bumpers, 31.5in all-terrain tyres wrapped around 18in multi-piece wheels, and a roof rack over the two-piece panoramic roof.

Inside, the Trailhawk gets a tad more concept-y. There’s a real-stone dash veneer, inspired by meteorites (we said it'd be heavier). That's mixed with a swathe of fake cow-clad surfaces and some more earthly elasticated cubbies. The steering wheel design’s been tweaked for better grip when manoeuvering and there's a passenger grab bar with a bunch of fasteners to can peg your stuff to.

The green and grey colour scheme is very practical, though the red drive mode rockers look more like emergency ejection switches. Jeep doesn’t say if it’ll put the thing into production yet. Are you in, or are you out?
