Hurrah! It looks like the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is finally going to make production
Boss of BMW M posts some pics of a camouflaged 3.0 CSL-type thing on Instagram
Unless you’ve been living under an M4 CSL-sized rock, you’re probably aware that this year BMW is celebrating 50 years of its M Division.
We’ve had plenty of M action so far in 2022, with a new M2 on the horizon and a prototype drive of the XM – a 634bhp hybrid SUV that’s set to be just the second bespoke M car in history, after the glorious M1 supercar.
There’s also been some M3 and M4 50 Jahre special editions, but it looks like the one we’ve all been waiting for is finally around the corner. Yep, the 3.0 CSL Hommage might finally be about to make production.
The images above were posted on Instagram by M Division boss Frank van Meel, and behind his power pose is something that looks remarkably similar to the 2015 concept that paid tribute to the 1972 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’.
Now, we’ll have to wait for more official info on BMW’s birthday present to itself, but rumour has it the Hommage could be based on the current M4 coupe. The M car wrap does feature a couple of clues to it being a bespoke creation though, with “6MT FTW” under the larger of the two rear wings. Six-speed manual transmission for the win, is that?
We’re guessing it’ll be put into production as the camo’d car above looks rather well finished and is wearing a numberplate, but there’s little doubt that BMW will only sell it in small numbers. It even says “I like it rare” on the bonnet.
So, what do we think of what’s on show so far, Internet? Will this be the best-looking BMW M car of the year?
