Here's your first look at the new Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai has gone all Batman Begins on us by teasing the upcoming new Tucson SUV. Gritty origin story, here we come.

The moody new SUV – once a happy, friendly ol’ bus – now features many lines, angles and a “kinetic jewel-like surface” for a much bolder appearance, complete with a really rather fetching new daytime running light design integrated into the grille.

This new Tucson is bigger and wider than before, with a longer bonnet, shorter overhangs and a stretched wheelbase for a “slinky, coupe-like character”. What's that, you said you need a training montage? Because there is much talk about the Tucson’s new-found athleticism and prowess: ‘angular’ body panels, ‘chiseled’ surfaces, ‘taut’ shapes, a ‘dynamic’ stance.

Inside, Hyundai tells us the new SUV features a lower instrument display, has done away with a gauge cluster, and offers a dash that sweeps into the doors. Up front, there’s a fully integrated centre fascia inspired by waterfalls, and the whole interior concept is said to fuse “space, technology and information”.

“Tucson’s advanced, experimental design is true to its pioneering spirit and raises the game in the industry’s most competitive segment,” explains the boss of Hyundai’s global design centre SangYup Lee.
