Here are the new 190mph+ Alpina B3 and B4 GT cars
Alpina ladles in some power, some bodykit and a huge dose of cool
Special day, this. Alpina, a company that now officially belongs to BMW but unofficially makes the coolest BMWs, has unveiled its latest trio of cars. Here are Alpina's new B3 GT, B3 GT Touring and B4 GT Gran Coupe models, each featuring many enhancements.
Enhancements that as usual, run the gamut of Alpina's work: there's an uprated version of BMW’s straight-six, revised suspension and a host of internal and external cosmetic tweaks. Let’s begin with the big numbers first.
An extra 34bhp has been squeezed from that 3.0-litre bi-turbo unit via a tweak to the ECU's mapping, bringing the new total to a sizeable 536bhp and 539 torques. That means a 3.4s sprint to 62mph in the B3 saloon, and a 3.5s sprint in the B3 Touring and B4 Gran Coupe models.
Aside from being two tenths faster to 62mph than their predecessors, Mssrs B3 and B4 are substantially quicker to 124mph too (between 0.7s and 1s). Top speed has also seen a slight bump: 191mph for the B3 saloon, and 190 for the other two.
All that power is channelled through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and onto the road via a variable all-wheel drive system. The trio also boast electronic rear differentials, improved dampers and adjusted spring rates, all in the name of improving handling. And comfort, of course.
Aside from the typically lovely 20in straight-cut forged alloys, a lower ride height and Alpina badging, these cars gain more aggressive front canards, redesigned rear splitters and darker exhaust tips. Subtle changes, but ones that are easy to appreciate.
The interior then takes the subtle approach even… further, headlined by bronze stitching, aluminium shift paddles and a bit more black leather in discreet spaces like the luggage compartments. Owners will also get a specific model plaque inserted along the centre console - something Alpina has done for about, oh, forever now.
Prices in Germany start at €101,700 for the four-door B3, €102,900 for the B3 Touring, and €105,100 for the B4 GT Gran Coupe. So, of the three, how will you spec your Alpina B3 Touring?
