The Ford Kuga will soon look like this facelifted Escape
LA motor show reveal for Kuga's American sibling previews new styling
Though you can't actually get a Ford Edge yet in Britain, Ford will be facelifting the Kuga to look like it. We know this because the Kuga's American bro, the Escape, has gone down the LA show catwalk with the makeover.
The new look involves a big hexagonal Ford truckular front grille, as well as a tidied up behind.
There aren't many changes to the oily bits. The Escape's petrol engines change to the newer generation of Ecoboost, including a switch from 1.6 turbo to 1.5 turbo. But the Euro-Kuga already made that change. We also get diesels, which Americans don't, up to 180bhp. Suspension is also mildly tweaked, because Ford never can resist.
Inside, the main difference is a new electric parking brake instead of a yank-on handbrake. This frees up more storage bins and they've added more charger sockets too. Also the gearlever moves backward, so you don't have to be Mr Baboon Arms to slot it into first.
The Sync connectivity system has had an upgrade too. It's now at version 3. They say the voice recognition is better, the interface is more intuitive, and there's a related smartphone app to lock and unlock the car from a worldwide web's distance away.
