This is the all-new second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc, and it looks much like the old one

But wait, it’s yellow! Properly angry little face too. Plus, there’ll be a new T-Roc R in the near future

This is the second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc, which went on sale in Germany yesterday and will soon inevitably be absolutely everywhere.

You see, despite being launched back in 2017 and facelifted in late 2021, the first generation was still the fourth best-selling car of all in Europe in the first half of 2025. People love these things.

And clearly Volkswagen didn’t want to change a winning formula, so the new T-Roc looks very much like the old one. There’s a new face of course that brings it in line with cars like the Tiguan and the Passat (and gives the option of a light up VW badge). There’s also LED lights up front with optional LED matrix headlights, while out back it gets a lightbar and another illuminated logo. Interesting fake diffuser on the very yellow R-Line car that you see above, too.

And while it may not look that different in profile, we’re told that the new car is actually 12cm longer than the outgoing one. Sounds like a fair bit of that extra room has been afforded to rear seat passengers too, with VW assuring us that “even if people taller than 1.85 metres are seated in the front, passengers of a similar stature can sit comfortably in the rear”. Very informative, thanks VW.

We’re also told that there’s now massage seats available as an option for the first time on a T-Roc, and boot space is up by 30 litres to a total of 475 litres with all seats in place. You get fancier fabrics inside too, plus the option of a head-up display for the first time.

There’s also a new version of Volkswagen’s Travel Assist cruise control, so it can now perform automatic lane changes and “react with even more foresight to speed limits or the lifting of speed limits”.

At launch there will be just one powertrain available but with two different power outputs (although there’s no subscriptions for extra grunt here). The 1.5-litre eTSI mild hybrid setup can be had with 114bhp or 148bhp. Both are front-wheel drive and get a seven-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox. Two full hybrids will follow with more electrical assistance, while another range-topping T-Roc R is also in the works.

Prices apparently start at €30,845 in Germany, with UK specs and deals to be confirmed soon.
