The 428bhp Patrol Nismo is the tuned V8 SUV we need
But it’s only available in the Middle East. Bring it here, Nissan
The GT-R and 370Z Nismo you know. In the UK, the offering from Nissan’s performance wing also extends to the Juke Nismo, while over in Japan they’re treated to a Note Nismo.
The UAE? A Patrol Nismo. Which means we’re feeling a little short-changed right now, because having made its Middle Eastern debut, it appears the Patrol Nismo is all kinds of excellent.
The big, motorsport-tuned Patrol SUV formed the centrepiece of Nissan’s UAE Nismo launch - showcased alongside Messrs GT-R and 370Z Nismo – and exists because, in the words of Nissan, “off–roading and motorsports are the lifeblood of local driving enthusiasts”.
Therefore, explains Nissan, “the time is right to introduce Patrol Nismo.” YES.
So, however improbably, this is a race-inspired version of the big lug. Sadly, there is no GT-R engine lurking underneath, but instead a modified version of the Patrol’s 5.6-litre V8, here producing 428bhp (up from around 400bhp), while torque is said to have been improved 70 per cent across the rev-range.
There are Bilstein shock absorbers, customised body reinforcements “for precision steering and quick response” (and added YES), a zero-lift aerodynamic body kit, Nismo-tuned power steering and 22-inch RAYS forged-alloy wheels. Oh, and a bespoke Nismo interior. Because performance.
“We could not have launched Nismo in the region without including our most iconic model,” says Nissan’s Middle East MD, Samir Cherfan.
Good call. Bring it here, Nissan. And why not a Nismo Cube while you’re at it?
