You'll be able to have the new Vauxhall Frontera as a five- or seven-seat EV
Frontera will reappear as a mid-size crossover with all-electric or hybrid powertrains, and prices could start at around £20k
Vauxhall has revealed details on the powertrains going into the all-new Frontera, and it has also confirmed that we'll get both five- and seven-seat variations. Don't get too excited now...
Our first look at the new Frontera last month showed the it to be much like the Mokka in its looks, and we know that it'll sit between that and the refreshed Grandland in Vauxhall's range of crossovers.
We already knew that the Frontera would come with electric and internal combustion powertrains, but we now know that both of those will require you to make a choice. So, if you want an electric Frontera you'll be choosing between either 186 or 248 miles of range (Vauxhall hasn't shared exact battery sizes yet) to go with a 111bhp motor.
That's based on the same Stellantis 'Smart Car' platform as the Citroen e-C3, and the Frontera will share the e-C3’s 100kW rapid charging capacity. That’ll mean a 20-80 per cent battery top up will only take 26 minutes.
The Frontera hybrid meanwhile gets a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, tuned to produce either 99bhp or 134bhp. That’s coupled with a 48V hybrid set-up that includes a 28bhp electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Here's the real excitement though, because Vauxhall (well, Opel) has confirmed that the Frontera hybrid will start at around €24,000 (£20,600) when it does eventually launch in Germany, with prices for the BEV starting at circa €29,000 (£25,000). UK prices and specs are set to follow at some point this summer.
