Wiesmann has revealed three unique Project Thunderball special editions

Bespoke versions of its new 671bhp electric roadster were built to ‘inspire’

Published: 13 Mar 2023

Naming your very fast electric car after a very… medium James Bond adventure most closely related to watersports could be considered a funny coincidence. Whatever, there’s definitely ‘Thunder’ in Wiesmann’s upcoming new two-seater.

The German carmaker – resurrected and now in the business of knocking out 671bhp electric roadsters - has revealed three new bespoke concepts designed in collaboration with studiokurbos that showcase what potential customers could achieve with their own ‘Project Thunderball’.

The first, dubbed ‘Design Concept One’, pairs metallic blue exterior paintwork with a bright orange interior and is meant to inspire memories of cruising along the Cote d’Azur. Concept Two is a Twenties-inspired, Gatsby-era trim featuring [cue Goldmember voice] goooold on the outside, and a burgundy leather interior with “hints of matte soft-touch velvet details”.

The final one represents something a little darker, thanks to… a matt black paint finish, gloss back detailing and yet more [cue Lego Batman voice] darkness inside.

We’re told the new Wiesmann EV has been designed utilising elements of the company’s past models including the MF3, MF4 and MF5, and shaped using carbon fibre body panels. Underneath there’s an 83kWh battery, 800V architecture, up to 300kW charging capacity and a projected range – when, say, cruising along the Cote d’Azur – of up to 311 miles.

When not cruising along, say, the Cote d’Azur, Wiesmann claims much horsepower, 811lb ft of torque and a 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds. It’s been built for driving rather than cruising, apparently.

The first year of production for the £250k Project Thunderball has all sold out with the initial batch of cars scheduled for a 2024 delivery. Though, never say never again – these concepts are proof that they’re still available.
