The VW ID.5 GTX is an all-electric SUV-coupe with a 309-mile range
Second ID GTX model apparently represents ‘new athleticism’
GTX may, for those long in the tooth, bring back memories of the Pininfarina-designed Peugeot 305. In 2021, it means sporty electric Volkswagens, and this is the second: the incoming VW ID.5 GTX.
And because it’s 2021, it’s an SUV-coupe. Of course. It’s just a preview at this stage, but the details provided so far are thus: it’ll get a 77kWh battery in the middle of the VW Group’s MEB platform, providing juice to a motor on each axle for 4WD.
VW reckons on a range of up to 497km. Not 496km or 498km, but 497km, which is around 309 miles. A decent slug, of course, and while no performance stats have been given, the company reckons this new ID.5 GTX will provide “strong driving performance, superior traction and sporty handling”. With the same powertrain, making a total of 295bhp, the ID.4 GTX accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds.
The ‘near-production’ concept will be on display at the upcoming Munich motor show from 7 September onwards, so we’ll have more details in due course. Gives you a bit of time to formulate some thoughts, no? Or indeed, go look up pictures of old Peugeots...
