The Smart #1 is now £4k cheaper, with prices starting at £31,950
Like the sugar tax on a chocolate bar, Smart's 'affordable EV' strategy makes the battery smaller
Smart has just sliced four grand off the entry-price of its Smart #1. The new ‘Pro’ has just launched in the UK for the more affordable price of £31,950.
That chunky discount is achieved with a smaller 49kWh battery (down from the 62kWh one in the Pro+), and takes range expectations from 273 miles to a still-respectable 193.
When it comes to charging, the Pro+ and Premium trims support 150kW power delivery, where this smaller battery prefers no more than 130kW DC charging. Smart reckons that'll top the battery up from 0-80 per cent in less than half an hour.
Otherwise, everything else remains. The 264bhp motor drives the rear wheels – covering 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds – and there's a spacious cabin and a generous amount of standard kit.
That includes adaptive cruise control, a panoramic glass sunroof, heated seats, a 360-degree parking camera, Apple Carplay/Android Auto integration, and remote updates, as well as an electric boot, Merc-inspired material quality and LED headlights.
At the other end of the line-up is, of course, the Brabus edition. That’ll set you back another £12,000 and change. For that, the Smart #1 Brabus styles a sportier bodykit and takes the max power output to a ridiculous 422bhp, halving the 0-62mph sprint. That sadly isn’t four grand cheaper. Oh well.
