This SLS AMG Electric Drive will set you back €1m

Fancy experiencing Merc’s future from back in 2012? Time to break the bank

Published: 06 May 2021

Well, here’s something you don’t see every day. This is a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive that’s actually for sale. Given that only nine examples of this wild EV supercar were rumoured to be completed, this is a very rare event.

This particular example is in the correct colour too – that painfully bright ‘Green Electric’ hue – and it’s had just two owners who’ve put around 2,300 miles on the clock since it was first registered in Switzerland in 2013. Very nice.

Anyone for a quick recap of the SLS AMG ED’s stats? It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show back in 2012 and used four electric motors (one for each wheel) with two gearboxes for a total of 740bhp and 738lb ft of torque. For reference, that’s 118bhp and 270lb ft more than the SLS Black Series had.

The result was a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds, while the 12 low-mounted battery modules provided a range of around 155 miles. It did weigh around 560kg more than the standard SLS AMG, though. Ouch.

Still a properly cool thing, isn’t it? Merc included Comfort, Sport and Sport+ drive modes whilst paddles behind the steering wheel controlled the level of regenerative braking.

Unfortunately, the rarity of the Electric Drive does mean that this one isn’t exactly cheap. RM Sotheby’s currently has it listed for €1,050,000 (around £910,000). Yikes…
