Seat and Cupra will launch a new small EV in 2025
Further plans to ‘electrify Spain’ could lead to production of 500,000 EVs per year
Remember Seat and Cupra’s plan to ‘electrify Spain’ with little urban EVs that we first heard about back in February? Well, that plan is progressing behind the scenes, and company president Wayne Griffiths has now confirmed that the main product behind that drive will be a small, Arona-sized EV crossover.
It’ll arrive in 2025 and will cost between £17,000 and £21,500 – with Seat wanting to produce a whole heap of them on the VW Group’s upcoming MEB-Lite platform.
“We want to manufacture electric cars in Spain starting in 2025,” said Griffiths at the company’s annual press conference.
“Our ambition is to produce more than 500,000 urban electric cars per year in Martorell also for the Volkswagen Group, but we need a clear commitment by the European Commission.”
Alongside that baby crossover will be the VW ID.3’s twin the Cupra Born – which should arrive properly later this year – and the Cupra Tavascan, which is now confirmed for launch in 2024. Click these blue words here for a Tavascan refresh.
What do we think of the Seat and Cupra plan then folks?
