Say hello to these plug-in hybrid Peugeots

Peugeot's 3008 SUV and 508 saloon get new PHEV powertrains

Published: 24 Sep 2018

Peugeot has joined the PHEV party, with the release of its new ‘Hybrid’ and ‘Hybrid4’ powertrains for the 3008 crossover and 508 saloon/estate.

‘Hybrid’, which for now is only available in the 508, pairs a 180bhp petrol engine with a 110bhp electric motor, both driving the front wheels only through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Total power when the two combine is 225bhp, with Peugeot promising tailpipe emissions of less than 49g/km of CO2.

The 3008, meanwhile gets ‘Hybrid4’. That means a more powerful 200bhp petrol engine, a second electric motor for all-wheel drive (this is the only 4x4 3008 you can buy) and a bigger battery – 13.2kWh. So equipped, the crossover will do 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds – quick, for such a thing, matching proper hot hatches – and it promises 30 miles of electric range.

Both systems are equipped with regenerative braking, plus various drive modes including e-Save (which lets you conserve battery power for later on in your journey), Sport, Comfort and full EV.

A 7kW wallbox (which if you have a PHEV or EV is definitely worth getting) gives a full recharge in less than two hours. They're the first evidence of the PSA Group's pledge (Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Vauxhall) to electrify each model in its entire line up from 2019.
