The Polestar 2 has been given more range and power

A few months on from releasing a software upgrade giving dual-motor Polestar 2 owners the option of a hefty 470bhp and 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, the company has been fiddling with the specifications again. Only this time the updates are more sedate.

Thanks to some improved cell chemistry, the single-motor version of the electric saloon now comes with 69kWh of battery capacity (up from 64kWh) for a new official range figure of 295 miles.

The 2’s max DC charging rate has also been upped to 130kW, and power has risen from 221bhp to… 228bhp. Hey, every horsepower counts. 

Oh, and that software patch from the tail end of last year is now included within Polestar’s optional Performance Pack, which also yields Brembo brakes and Öhlins dampers for the princely sum of £5,000.

Beyond that, there’s not a lot else to report. A couple of new exterior paint options have been added, there are new 19- and 20-inch alloy designs, and the heat pump now operates with a wider optimum temperature range. Between -7 and 25 degrees Celsius, since you ask.

Polestar has also made efforts to use more sustainable materials (there’s a new Nappa leather supplier to that end) in order to reduce the carbon footprint of production.
“We have revisited materials and processes that go into making Polestar 2, introducing updates that reduce the climate impact and increase material traceability of this award-winning car,” said Thomas Ingenlath, company CEO. “These are important additions to how we can improve cars over their lifetime – not just with functionality and design updates but addressing sustainability and carbon footprint as well.”

Naturally prices have leapt in line with the updates. The cheapest, single-motor 2 now starts from £41,900, with the Long Range variant costing £3k more. Want both the dual-motor set-up and bigger battery? That’ll be £47,900 please.
