Official: the Polestar Precept is going into production

It’s a sustainably built four-seat electric GT, and it’s now a proper Thing

Published: 28 Sep 2020

Polestar has confirmed that it plans to put its Precept ‘commitment car’ into full production. Which means one day in the future – should you be attired in your favourite Money Suit – you can buy this very car.

Which is good news, because the Polestar Precept looks wonderful. A four-seat electric GT, the Precept will feature some amount of horsepower and be able to breach 62mph in some amount of time, using a battery of some… power. We just don’t know what any of those metrics are right now.

We do know that it’s about as long as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and uses recyclable materials for the interior including recycled PET bottles, reclaimed fishing nets and recycled cork vinyl. There’s a flax-based composite used in both the interior and exterior that Polestar wants to bring to the final production car.

It’ll be built in China in a new facility that aims to become carbon neutral, too. “Consumers want to see change from this industry, not just dreams,” explains Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath. “Now, Precept become an even stronger statement. We are committed to reduce the environmental impact of our cars and our business.

“The aim has to be climate neutrality, even though I recognise that is a long-term goal,” he added.
