Nissan pledges *even more* electric cars by 2030

Nissan is so confident in its plans to go fully electric that it has decided to add another four entirely new EVs to its To Do list for 2030.

Yep, the Japanese carmaker is going full Oasis, upping the number of EVs in its ‘family full of eccentrics' from the previously-pledged 15 to a now-vowed 19. And yes, that's a She's Electric gag.

Before we stray any further into #dadjoke territory, let's acknowledge that since the boggle-eyed first-gen Nissan Leaf and cutesy cousin Renault Zoe hit forecourts, the brand has been a bit of pioneer in the world of electric vehicles. Not quite Tesla levels of influence, but still.

And having recommitted to its strategy, it expects the volume of electrified vehicles (i.e. EVs and hybrids) it sells in Europe to increase from a predicted 75 per cent to 98 per cent by 2026.

In the revised figures, however, Nissan reckons it’ll sell fewer electrified vehicles to China, dropping its projections from 40 per cent to 35.

This could be due to the highly competitive launches of the Ora Funky Cat - known as the Good Cat in China - and the resounding success of the award-winning MG4, AKA China's MG Mulan.

And don't forget the MG ZS EV and MG HS, the latter of which became the UK’s best-selling car in January 2023.

Nissan has also confirmed its plan to finesse its connected car offering: the new e-architecture that features in the Nissan Ariya is going to be rolled out to forthcoming models over the next decade. Watch this (digital) space.
