The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will cost from £52,240

VW’s electric tourer goes on sale later this week, but you’ll have to wait until summer for price tags on the GTX

Published: 16 Apr 2024

Permit us a journey into the admittedly small world of electric estate cars: the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will go on sale later this week, with prices starting from £52,240.

Why small? Only a handful of electric estates currently exist, and while there'll be three versions of the ID.7 Tourer to choose from, VW has only announced the price for this entry-level Pro Match version. Later this summer, the Pro S and GTX variants will arrive.

As standard, the 282bhp rear-wheel-drive VW ID.7 gets a 77kWh battery with an official range of 374 miles. There's a veritable swathe of exterior and interior wonders, like LED lights, diamond-cut alloys, a 15in display, augmented reality HUD and bags of rear load space – a capacious 1,714 litres with the seats down.

The Pro S gets an 86kWh battery with a claimed 425 miles of range, and all versions get peak 175kW charging capacity. That means a 10-80 per cent fill in less than half an hour.

What we're all here for of course, is the high-performance GTX. Though it'll sport the smaller 77kWh battery, VW says it'll get a punchy 335bhp sent to all four wheels. More as we have it.
